E-Book Yeast Biotechnology 6.0
Teknologi & Komputer 2024
Yeast Biotechnology 6.0
Ronnie Willaert
Yeasts are truly fascinating microorganisms. Due to their diverse and dynamic activities, they have been used to produce many interesting products, such as beer, wine, bread, biofuels, and biopharmaceuticals. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (bakers’ yeast) is likely the most human-exploited yeast species. Saccharomyces is a popular choice for industrial applications, and its use in beer production dates back to at least the 6th millennium BC. Bakers’ yeast represents a cornerstone of modern biotechnology, enabling the development of efficient production processes for antibiotics, biopharmaceuticals, technical enzymes, and ethanol and biofuels. Today, more diverse yeast species are being explored for industrial applications, e.g., the Saccharomyces cerevisiae, S. cerevisiae bayanus, Pichia pastoris (Komagataella phaffii), Saccharomycopsis fermentans, Wickerhamomyces anomalus, and Candida species. This instalment — “Yeast Biotechnology 6.0” — continues the “Yeast Biotechnology” Special Issue series of the MDPI journal Fermentation. This issue highlights the current prominent research directions in the fields of yeasts as a cell factory, yeast nanobiotechnology, wine yeasts and wine fermentation, yeasts and food fermentation, and biocontainment for yeast biotechnology.
E-Book Cantilever-Based Sensors
Teknologi & Komputer 2024
Cantilever-Based Sensors
Bruno Tiribilli
Microcantilevers are typically rectangular-shaped bars, approximately 100–200 μm long, 20–40 μm wide, and 0.5–1 μm thick, and are made of silicon or silicon nitride. Their mechanical response is often described as a very soft spring. The static deformation of a cantilever allows for the detection of the smallest forces with unprecedented sensitivity, whereas the resonance frequency of its dynamic response can be used to measure extremely small masses or fluid properties. Cantilever-based sensors have received considerable interest in the last few decades, as they offer an unparalleled opportunity for the development of highly sensitive biophysical and chemical sensors, employed in a very wide spectrum of applications. These sensors have been widely utilized in electronics, automotive and aerospace systems, biophysics, environmental monitoring, and medical diagnosis sectors, among others. Their working principle is often based on the interaction between a micrometric cantilever and it

Further, stochastic models have recently received increasing attention. Obviously, some of these types of complex problems also require a deep analysis of the tools utilized to solve these situations. In this collection, we will attempt to integrate models, methods, and also a
